Turtle lays eggs on the Viking Greenway today! The yellow-bellied slider is a medium-sized, semi-aquatic turtle native to the southeastern United States. They are known for their distinctive yellow markings and adaptability, thriving in various aquatic habitats. The yellow-bellied sliders have smooth, oval-shaped shells with yellow stripes and vertical bands. They have a prominent yellow patch behind each eye, which is most visible in females and juveniles. Nesting occurs in late spring or early summer near water. Nests usually contain 4 to 12 eggs. Typically 60-90 days to hatch, but the young MAY stay in the nest for a long time, even over winter. These guys may not because it is so early in the season.

The school cafes did a wonderful job spreading love, the best way they know how - through food! The students across the district enjoyed a special, student favorite, Valentines lunch on February 14th. The cafeteria crew at both kitchens made a heartwarming meal that consisted of chicken tenders with a Belgian waffle, roasted sweet potatoes, baby carrots, strawberry cup, juice, and milk. Everyone enjoyed the fun valentines themed decorations and delicious food.
A huge thank you to our cafe crews at both schools for always going above and beyond to make lunch special for our students.

Good afternoon Vikings,
To err on the side of caution with possible icy conditions in the morning, we will operate on a 2 hour delay tomorrow. Breakfast and lunch will be served.

Due to forecasted icy conditions, all afternoon activities for today (Feb. 19) are canceled. Schools will dismiss on regular schedule. The Varsity Boys' Basketball game will be rescheduled for tomorrow (Feb. 20) at 7:30. The Varsity Girls' Basketball team is scheduled to play at 6:00 tomorrow. Both games are home.

Latta Schools will operate on a two hour delay on Friday, January 24. Buses will pick up two hours later than normal time and schools will take in two hours later than normal schedule. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Please remind your child to bring in their eLearning work from Wednesday.

Due to freezing temperatures and expected dangerous road conditions, Latta Schools will be closed tomorrow (1/23). The state allows 5 eLearning days. We used our 5th day today. Therefore, tomorrow will be a closure. We will make up this day on Friday, February 7 which is a scheduled teacher workday. All teachers and students should report on February 7.

All Latta Schools will have an eLearning day Wednesday, January 22 due to the forecasted wintry weather. Your child's teacher will send home eLearning assignments today. See our website for eLearning expectations. Please encourage your child to complete their work and turn it in on the day of return.

Please excuse the early message. There is some incorrect information circulating about our school schedule. Our district will operate a regular day today (1/21). A decision will be made about tomorrow later this morning. Your child's safety is our priority & our families will be the FIRST to know about closures.

We're thrilled to announce the new app for Latta Schools!
