The 246 Army Band of the South Carolina National Guard will be in concert at the Ellis Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, July 1 at 6:30 pm. The Band is touring South Carolina this summer as part of its Concert Series. The 246 Army Band is the premier musical performing ensemble of the South Carolina Army National Guard. Stationed at McEntire Joint National Guard Base in Eastover, South Carolina, the unit is comprised of multiple performance teams (MPTs), including marching and ceremonial bands, a rock band, jazz ensemble, brass quintet, and woodwind group.
The history and service of the 246 Army Band dates back to 1939 as part of the 178th Field Artillery, and the unit proudly served in multiple campaigns during World War II. Today, the unit travels throughout the state performing for various community outreach events and military ceremonies, including an annual summer concert series.
The performance in Latta at the Ellis Performing Arts Center will feature a 1940s big band set from the Palmetto Jazz Orchestra followed by the concert band and traditional pieces befitting the patriotic season.
