Latta Middle School held its schoolwide Spelling Bee on Tuesday, January 20. Grade-level winners competed for the opportunity to represent LMS at the regional Spelling Bee in March.

This year’s grade-level winners were: 6th Grade – Ismael H., 7th Grade – Aniah W., and 8th Grade – Landon G. Each student impressed us with their strong spelling skills, and it was evident they dedicated significant time and effort to preparing for the schoolwide competition.

We are extremely proud of all three students for their hard work and determination. Landon G. emerged as the overall winner and will represent Latta Middle School at the regional Spelling Bee. Congratulations and best of luck to Landon as he advances to the next level!

We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to Mr. McInnis, 7th Grade ELA teacher, for serving as our Spelling Bee Coordinator this year. His organization, dedication, and commitment to student success helped make this event a meaningful and successful experience for our students.

A Penny War has been declared to begin at LMS on Monday, January 12 and end on Friday, January 23!

Each grade level is competing against each other to earn points. The winning grade level will not be the one that has the most money, but the most POINTS! Ultimately, grade levels want to collect pennies and bills to have the most points.

The Penny Wars buckets will be set up in the lunchroom daily. Therefore, make sure to bring your coins to lunch. The winning grade level will have an ice cream celebration on January 30th!

All money raised through penny wars will go directly towards funding the Head Over Boots dance being held on February 13th.

LMS is in the Holiday Spirit! On Friday, December 12th, Mr. Hedgepeth's first 8th grade Automation and Robotics class spread a little holiday cheer by stringing lights down the main hall. This idea started out as a debate between Mr. Hedgepeth and Mrs. Brigman about which lights (white or multi-colored) are more popular. From there, they had the idea to string lights in the halls. To make this possible, Mr. Hedgepeth's students measured the hall and calculated the diagonal lengths using the Pythagorean Theorem to determine how many feet of lights they would need. They ended up stringing over 400 feet of lights. Not only will this bring excitement to the student body, but it created excitement for Mr. Hedgepeth's students!
