Celebrating Success: Latta Middle School Awards Program On Friday, May 23, LMS held its annual Awards Program, a cherished tradition that celebrates the achievements, growth, and perseverance of our students throughout the school year. Parents, teachers, and staff gathered in the LHS gymnasium to recognize students who have excelled in academics, leadership, character, the arts, and service. The ceremony was a powerful reminder of the incredible effort and dedication demonstrated by our students. We are incredibly proud of all our students and their accomplishments this year. To our 8th-grade students, we wish you continued success as you move on to high school. And to all returning students, we look forward to another exciting year ahead. Congratulations to all award recipients—and thank you to our dedicated teachers and families for your ongoing support! Here’s to a strong finish and an even brighter future!

On Thursday, May 22, Latta Middle School proudly held its National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Induction Ceremony, honoring a group of exceptional students who exemplify the core pillars of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character. Held in the LHS gymnasium the ceremony welcomed family members, faculty, and staff to witness this momentous occasion. Following the traditional candle-lighting ceremony representing the five pillars, each inductee was formally introduced and presented with a certificate and NJHS pin. Congratulations to our newest NJHS members! Your dedication and hard work are an inspiration to our school community. We look forward to seeing the many ways you will continue to lead and serve. Go Vikings!

What a wonderful night at Thursday’s Spring Band Concert! Our students impressed us with their talent and energy. A huge thank you to our dedicated band director, Ms. Shaddock, supportive families, and of course, our amazing band members for all their hard work and preparation. 🎶🎺🎷

A big thank you to Detective Porter and the Boys to Men/Girls with Purpose organization for sponsoring a hot dog celebration in honor of our Quarter 3 Honor Roll students! The celebration included hot dogs, chips, drinks, and extra outdoor time—an enjoyable reward for their hard work and dedication in the classroom. We sincerely appreciate your support in recognizing our students' achievements!

Anna Rogers is currently at the South Carolina Teacher of the Year Gala on the grounds of the Governor’s mansion in Columbia, South Carolina. This event celebrates public education in S.C. and hosts district Teachers of the Year, legislators, business leaders, and community members to acknowledge the importance of the teaching profession. Thank you for representing Dillon District 3 so well as our district Teacher of the Year! We are blessed to have you on staff at Latta Middle School!

Our 7th grade students became world travelers today—without ever leaving South Carolina! They attended the Columbia International Festival and explored 144 countries through interactive exhibits, cultural displays, and authentic artifacts. With their “passports” in hand, they learned about global traditions, languages, music, and art—an unforgettable journey around the world in just one day!

ProTeam students, chaperoned by Cristin Britt and Jenny Melton, got the opportunity to visit Horry Georgetown Technical College. They heard the State Teacher of the Year, Braden Wilson, speak about her experience in teaching and being encouraged by her former teachers. Students then toured the campus and heard about the different programs HGTC has to offer. They spent the day learning and having fun!

The Latta Middle School 7th grade ProTeam students visited Latta Elementary School this week. ProTeam, taught by Mrs. Cristin Britt, is a course designed to encourage students to become educators. To accomplish this goal, the ProTeam curriculum requires students to be fully immersed in the classroom to assist teachers and students. During this experience, our middle-schoolers got the opportunity to read aloud to classes, help students one-on-one with their math or reading, and even help with redirection and classroom management. After this experience, several students expressed their interest in becoming a teacher and their understanding of how challenging, yet rewarding teaching can be. LMS would like to thank Mrs. Dollie Morrell and Leigh Sloan for orchestrating this field experience and allowing our students to be a part of their LES classroom community.

Latta Middle School Student Council traveled to Chapin High School in Chapin, South Carolina this weekend to attend the South Carolina Association of Student Council State Convention. Pictures are from various events throughout the weekend.

The Latta Middle School Academic Challenge Team went up against a few LMS staff members in a full Academic Challenge match last night! The staff members won 45-23! Go Vikings!

Mrs. Roberts' and Mrs. Harrison's 6th grade homerooms recently became published authors. A book reveal took place in order to share their books with family and friends. The students worked extremely hard, and their hard work definitely paid off. Congratulations!

The students in Mrs. Marsh’s 7th grade Science classes just finished working on their Ecosystems Diorama and Writing Projects. They had to depict an ecosystem of their choice in a diorama that included producers, consumers, decomposers, and symbiotic relationships. It could be a terrestrial or an aquatic ecosystem. They also had to research each of these organisms within their ecosystem and write about them in an essay.  The top ten winners are shown in the photos.
