Mrs. Britt's 7th grade ProTeam class continues to teach lessons using the standard structure for teaching (give content, model concept, practice, check for understanding, and assess). On Friday, Mr. Rivers taught his classmates how to assemble a tent, and today, Ms. Bailey and Ms. Ava taught their classmates how to strategically complete a puzzle. Students have enjoyed switching roles and being a teacher!

Students who sold at least 3 boxes of World’s Finest Chocolate during our spring fundraiser earned the opportunity to pie Mrs. Brigman, Mrs. Drew, or Coach Brown on Friday, May 1! As an extra bonus, students who sold 6 boxes earned three pies to throw.

By the end of the event, the three staff members had taken more than 80 pies to the face! From lots of laughter to plenty of whipped topping, the event was a huge success and brought smiles to students and staff alike. Whether students were able to throw a pie themselves or simply enjoy watching the fun, everyone seemed to have a great time.

We are incredibly thankful to all of the students, families, and community members who supported our school during this year’s spring fundraiser. Your support helps provide opportunities and resources for our students throughout the year, and we truly appreciate your generosity.

Thank you again for helping make this fundraiser, and the pie event, such a memorable experience for our LMS family!

Latta Middle School would like to extend a huge thank you to Ms. Amber Jordan’s Art 2 students at Latta High School for the incredible motivational testing posters they created for our students during SC READY testing!

The creativity, encouragement, and positivity displayed in each poster helped brighten our hallways and motivate our students to do their very best. From uplifting messages to colorful designs, these students used their artistic talents to remind our students that they are capable, prepared, and ready to succeed.

We are so grateful for the support and partnership between our schools. It means so much to our students and staff to see older students encouraging and inspiring them during such an important time of the year.

Thank you again to Ms. Jordan and her talented Art 2 students for sharing your creativity, kindness, and school spirit with LMS. Your hard work made a difference and helped create a positive testing environment for our students!

The art students in Miss. Rogers’ classes recently completed colorful beaded tapestry projects! Students began by designing a pixel grid pattern that served as a map for their artwork. Using their designs as a guide, they carefully threaded pony beads onto strings to bring their creations to life.
This project combined creativity, planning, and patience as students transformed simple materials into unique woven-style artworks.

Mrs. Cristin Britt's 7th grade ProTeam class started their final unit in ProTeam - "I Can Teach!" Students have prepared lesson plans, materials, and assessments. Today, Mr. Kamden and Mr. Weston kicked off the teaching experience with giving a lesson on how to hit a baseball. These teachers taught content via videos and modeling; then, we went to the batting cages to practice and take an assessment. All students (and Mrs. Britt) passed the assessment given by Mr. Weston and Mr. Kamden!

As a reward for selling the most World's Finest Chocolate during our fundraiser at LMS, M. Brown received the opportunity to be Principal of the Day. He monitored hallways, assisted in student and staff concerns, and allowed staff members to wear jeans today. His rule change for Monday is extra break! We appreciate Principal Brown very much!

The Latta Middle School's Design & Modeling students, led by Mr. Joseph Hedgepeth, spent time this semester learning how to measure using customary and metric systems. They applied these skills to sketch and build cardboard (Cereal Box) skimmers. Students will test their skimmers and conduct statistical analysis of their results.

Happy Earth Day! 🌎💚 This week we’re exploring human-environment interaction and how our choices impact the Earth. Students are also working on a project to identify real-world ways people can change and protect the environment. Small actions matter, and our students are learning they can make a difference!

Last night, Mr. McInnis, poet and teacher at LMS, hosted Latta Schools' first ever Viking Poetry Slam in honor of National Poetry Month. Many LMS and LHS students, as well as a few staff members, participated, taking courage to stand on stage and recite their personal, original poems. The faculty and staff take pride in the talent students showcased last night, and we look forward to more events in the future.

Mrs. Mew's Math Class reviewed for the upcoming SC Ready Math test by solving mystery math problems. Each egg contained a math problem. Students were in groups of three. Each group must select an egg, solve the question, and then run back to get another question. Teams were awarded 2 points for correct answers and lost a point for incorrect answers.

Asparagus was introduced to students this week, Tuesday, April 14, 2026! The asparagus was provided by our home state, South Carolina farmers through the Certified SC Cafeteria Program. The asparagus was slightly roasted and served. Many of the students stated that this was their first time trying asparagus and they enjoyed it!

The 7th grade LMS ProTeam students visited Latta Elementary School this week to complete field experience that shows them real-life teaching. On Tuesday students observed and made note of teachers' instruction styles and classroom management. On Wednesday and Thursday, students completed hands-on tasks to assist the teacher, including but not limited to, handing out papers, stapling papers, organizing chargers, and most importantly, working with students one-on-one with their lessons. This experience is a key component in the ProTeam curriculum as ProTeam was designed to encourage students to pursue a career in education, and we thank LES for partnering with us to make this happen.

The ProTeam students returned from LES daily with smiles on their faces, excited to have been able to help students and teachers. Several of them expressed "My students love me," "I think I may actually want to be a teacher now," and "Can we please go back to LES again?" The ProTeam instructor, Mrs. Cristin Britt, is very proud of her students and grateful for having the opportunity to partner with LES.
