This morning students gathered around the flagpole to participate in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes' See You at the Pole event. This event was conducted with student-led words of encouragement and prayer. FCA leaders shared first, and then students broke out into small group sessions for more connected encouragement. Thank you to all who came out to participate.
Student Council election season is in full swing at Latta Middle School. 💚💛 The 200 building is filled with creative campaign posters as students learn about the candidates and get ready to make their voices heard. Leadership starts here!
Mrs. Anderson/Rogers 7th grade mathematicians put their learning into action with a hands-on exploration of circles! After learning about circumference and diameter, students worked together in groups to measure different 3-D objects using rulers and fishing line. They compared their measurements, looked for patterns, and discovered the special relationship between circumference and diameter—leading them to discover the value of π (pi)! It was a great opportunity to collaborate, investigate, and see the math we are learning come to life.
Students at LMS are gearing up for the Student Council election that will take place on Friday, September 18th! All students running for a position had to create a poster to promote their campaign, and as you can see, we have students who are full of talent and creativity! We can't wait to see the results and what Student Council will do for LMS this year!
Mrs. Rogers 6th grade Computer classes kicked off Attendance Awareness Spirit Week with Pajama Day, and this crew definitely understood the assignment! We loved seeing our students come to school ready to learn while having a little fun along the way.

Mrs. Allison's math students observed 9/11 by Remembering through Ratios. Twin Tower facts were researched and then the students used the facts to create ratios. The students then drew replicas of the Twin Towers prior to 9/11 and wrote their ratios about the towers.
September is National Attendance Awareness Month! At Latta Middle School, we are reminding our Vikings that everyday matters and being present and on time helps students succeed. Ms. Melton, LMS School Counselor, is meeting with each grade level to discuss the importance of attendance and encourage students to make being present and on time a priority. Students are learning ways to prioritize daily attendance, using attendance trackers to monitor their progress, and understanding the importance of following school attendance procedures, including turning in required notes when absent. At the end of the lesson, students have an opportunity to sign the Be Present SC Attendance Pledge and commit to being present and on time each day. At LMS, we strive for 100% Present and On Time! We are encouraging our Vikings to show up today to achieve our goals tomorrow!
On Wednesday, September 2, 2026, our 8th grade students had the exciting opportunity to participate in the South Carolina Farm Bureau Learning Lab – Ag in the Classroom!
Students spent the day exploring agriculture through a variety of hands-on, interactive learning experiences. They identified different types of seeds, matched agricultural categories, and even stepped into the world of farming through an exciting virtual reality experience. Students also discovered the many uses and benefits of soybeans and learned just how important this crop is to our everyday lives. (Did you know that Oreos contain soybean products?)
One of the highlights of the experience was the opportunity for students to make their very own soy crayon using soy wax! This creative activity allowed students to see firsthand how soybeans can be transformed into useful products.
Our students thoroughly enjoyed this engaging learning experience while gaining a greater appreciation for agriculture, soybeans, and the many ways agricultural products are used in our daily lives. We are grateful to the South Carolina Farm Bureau for providing such a memorable and educational experience for our students!

Miss Rogers’ art students have been practicing their color-mixing skills and learning how to work with acrylic paint! Students put those skills to use on canvas by creating beautiful fall scenes to be displayed throughout the hallways. We’re excited to bring a little bit of fall into our school!

Ms. Upton’s ELA classes are diving into the classic novel Where the Red Fern Grows. To bring the story to life, students wore camouflage today for the reading of Chapter 8—Billy’s very first hunt with his dogs! We love seeing our students engage so enthusiastically with literature. This morning, our announcers went above and beyond to showcase school spirit by featuring Goosetta, our school goose, and wearing a Viking helmet! We are so thankful for those who take leadership and pride to complete the morning announcements every day!

Ms. Faulk has kicked off her exciting Subway Surfer ELA Stations in the classroom! Through station rotations, students have the opportunity to work collaboratively in small groups while practicing and strengthening a variety of ELA skills.
During each rotation, students complete engaging activities, collaborate with their peers, and receive targeted instruction from Ms. Faulk. Stations may include grammar practice, novel study, story elements, independent learning activities, and teacher-guided annotation.
This engaging approach allows students to receive additional support, strengthen important skills, and take greater ownership of their learning. We love seeing our Vikings actively engaged and working together!

Ms. Allison's 6th grade math students have completed their first unit of the school year and are now preparing for Friday’s unit assessment through engaging math stations! Each station focused on a key learning target from the unit, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing decimals. Students were excited to collaborate with their peers as they worked together to solve task cards and strengthen their understanding. We love seeing our Vikings actively engaged in learning!
Our iReady diagnostics went very well, and our 6th grade students are already diving into their individualized learning lessons! It is exciting to see them take ownership of their learning and make progress each day. We love watching our Vikings grow and improve! 💚💛

Students in Mrs. Marsh's 7th grade Science classes have been learning about what good scientists do. This week they participated in a Dress the Scientist Relay Race to find out more about Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) scientists use. Our winners are pictured below.
