Student Council travels to SCASC!
This weekend nine LMS students and three chaperones traveled to R.B. Stall High School in North Charleston, SC to attend the South Carolina Association of Student Council (SCASC) state convention. During this event, students participated in workshops where they gained insight into more ideas for school and community services. Our students also participated in the election process where they voted for district and state officials. For fun, students competed in leadership games throughout the weekend as well as an awards banquet and an extravagant dance on Saturday night.

Students were also fortunate to hear keynote speakers Lilyan Prado-Carillo share her inspirational story about life as a Guatemalan immigrant and Joaquin Zihuatanejo, National Poetry Slam and World Cup Poetry Slam winner, share his overcoming story blended with performative poetry recitations.

LMS Student Council earned three project awards from the State Conference!

💚1st place in the Recognition category for the Waffle Bar in August which was used to welcome teachers back to school
💚3rd place in the Recreational Activity category for the Head Over Boots dance which was held on February 13th and allowed students to connect and have fun
💚3rd place in the Fundraising category for Penny Wars which was held in January to raise funds for the school dance

Our very own Student Council President Raya Adams also received the Terry McCoy award for leadership excellence.

The LMS Student Council is completing their third year of service and looks forward to continuing to grow. These students work hard all year long to create events that improve school pride while bringing leadership to a point of focus. The student council aims to make LMS a welcoming place where all students feel safe, welcome, and heard.
