On Tuesday afternoon, freshmen at LHS used their voices by casting their votes for Freshman Class President and Vice President.
Prior to voting, students gathered in the EPAC to hear from presidential candidate Raya Adams and vice presidential candidate Auburi Gibson. Both candidates shared their vision for the future of LHS, which included increasing student participation in school activities and boosting school spirit.
The day's campaign event was led by 2026–2027 Student Body Officers Cooper Grainger, Student Body President; Maliyah Bethea, Student Body Vice President; and Ahyliah Smiling, Student Body Secretary. The student leaders discussed ideas for future activities at LHS, including a winter formal and a basketball pep rally.
Freshmen also had the opportunity to ask questions of the candidates and Student Body Officers, giving them a chance to learn more about their ideas and plans for the school year.
Freshman Class Representatives were also announced during the event. This year's representatives are Kayleigh Smith, Honor Williams, Ellie Kirk, and Kanashia Simon.
Tuesday's event gave the Class of 2030 an opportunity to make their voices heard and become involved in student leadership from the beginning of their high school experience. As the new school year gets underway, LHS's newest Vikings are already taking an active role in shaping their class and school community.
