On Wednesday, April 22, 2026 the LES Student Council celebrated its inaugural year after school. Students were served pizza, cupcakes, and lemonade while participating in a recognition ceremony. The LES Student Council has done wonderful things to enhance our school culture and is already looking forward to a great next school year.
LES students did a fantastic job presenting at the board meeting on April 14th! Three 4th grade students along with two 4th grade teachers shared highlights and photos from their trip to the State House for Liberty Day, giving a glimpse into this meaningful learning experience. LES Student Council members, along with Mrs. Luffman, also spoke at the board meeting. They talked about the election process they went through to get elected and proudly showcased the projects they’ve supported and led throughout the school year. You all did an outstanding job representing LES!
Asparagus was introduced to students this week, Tuesday, April 14, 2026! The asparagus was provided by our home state, South Carolina farmers through the Certified SC Cafeteria Program. The asparagus was slightly roasted and served. Many of the students stated that this was their first time trying asparagus and they enjoyed it!
Our fifth grade students have been learning all about careers in guidance class with Mrs. Leigh. On Friday, April 3, students presented their learning to parents and students. They dressed up as their chosen career and showed off their presentations to our guests. We even had one student dress up as one of our high school coaches! We are so proud of all the hard work that went in to this event!
Our smallest learners celebrated Read Across America by hosting a Dr. Seuss Cat in the Hat Parade. Students created their own hats and paraded around the football stadium for guests to see. Each class had a best hat winner, and those students received a Dr. Seuss book!
LES students did a fantastic job representing countries from around the world! Our lower elementary students have studied about the people and cultures from all over. On Friday, March 13, they dressed the part and paraded around our football stadium. We are so proud of their hard work!

Every year on March 21, people around the world celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing brightly colored, mismatched socks! LES will rock our socks on tomorrow, March 20! Let's come together to celebrate all of the wonderful things about people with down syndrome, while helping advocate for inclusion!
The SC Department of Education’s Office of Student and Community Engagement is offering a free community-focused training on Mentorship and Literacy Tutoring on March 27th from 9am-12pm. If you are interested in attending please see the attached flyer for details and registration.
On Tuesday, March 17th, LES Student Council took time to recognize all staff members with a special treat and message. "We would Crumbl without you," was the message shared throughout the hallways as student council delegates passed out Crumbl cookies to the entire LES staff.
The fourth grade students at LES worked extremely hard on their black history projects. They were able to show off their hard work at school today at the Wax Museum. Each student created a presentation on their Chromebook, as well as a poster and written essay. Some students dressed up to represent the person they studied. These students did a phenomenal job with this project! We are so proud of them!
Mrs. Cox's class enjoyed a visit from our local 4-H Agent, Elizabeth Snipes! 🍀 We have been learning about electrical circuits in fourth grade. They had an opportunity to make their own circuits using copper tape, a light bulb, and battery. They quickly learned that electricity moves in a closed circuit. Gaps in the copper will stop the flow. We used many problem-solving skills throughout this activity. We enjoyed having Mrs. Elizabeth in our classroom today and can't wait until she is able to come back!

Mrs. Gay and Mrs. Amy's class had so much fun celebrating Dr. Seuss! The kiddos even ate green eggs and ham!
Elizabeth Alderman, a reading buddy at LES, volunteers her time to read with students in Mrs. Short’s class. She read a great book entitled “Love You Forever” to Mrs. Short’s class in celebration of Valentine’s Day. The students gained a different perspective of what it means to truly love someone for Valentine’s Day.
LES kindergarten students went "shopping" for some winter wear! The Latta Senior Empowerment Services created handmade hats, scarves, and socks and donated them to our students. We so greatly appreciate this every year! It was great having the ladies join us on our "shopping" day, too!

Come out and join us for Latta's Got Talent! This event will take place Thursday, March 5th at 6:30pm in the EPAC. Admission will be $5. We hope to see you there!
On Tuesday, LES students showcased their work to parents at PTO. We had an amazing turnout! We had over 200 guests visit classrooms, and our students really showed off their learning!
